Drawing Art, Shadow Puppetry

Steve has been an aspiring artist since he was able to hold a crayon. Mickey Mouse and Santa Claus were his earliest subjects. Subjects changed, as well as materials used. He especially likes pen and ink, landscapes and buildings.

Professional training lead to a BFA from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford, majoring in print making with a minor in painting. Chance found him teaching at Rocky Hill High School, Windham and E.O. Smith High Schools, and Eastern Connecticut State University. His specialty was jewelry making. His night school students were very special to him.

Retirement brought him to Niantic where our president, Dick Waterman introduced him to local history and Ezra Lee’s role in the ‘Turtle Submarine’. Dick and Steve serve on two local historical societies.

Steve currently enjoys drawing historic houses and sites, and learning many of the amazing stories about his adopted retirement community. He is also learning some of the mechanics of puppetry, including shadow puppets.
